An attempt at symmetrical scars...

We got a call last night from Dr. Weng that Charlie's other (left) lung had collapsed pretty badly. It was a more extensive collapse than the previous collapse on the right side. They put in a chest tube right away and the plan is pretty much the same as it was with the other one, just leave the tube in and the ventilator settings reasonably low until the lung is able to heal. The chest tube from the right lung had just been removed yesterday, so it's disappointing that Charlie had to get it almost immediately "replaced" just on the other side. I guess he already understands and is enamored with the concept of symmetry.

Charlie continues to be on antibiotics for the bacteria in his lungs and blood. Apparently, there are two different bacterias causing problems at the moment, but the doctors are given him all the appropriate antibiotics. We're back at wait-and-see, but they are expecting the antibiotics to do their job and right now the primary goal is for the hole in the lung that caused the collapse to heal.

I will post some more pictures soon.

Chuckie & Shannon,

Thank you so much for the updates on Charlie. We think about you all the time and are praying for you and for strength and health for Charlie. I am so happy that the ibuprofen was effective and the PDA is tiny now. We will be praying for Charlie's lungs and recovery from the infection.

You are both amazing parents and we are so glad that Charlie has so much love in his life. I know your presence makes a difference for him.

Chuckie & Shannon,

First of all, congrats on becoming parents. We are praying for strength for you both and a quick recovery for Charlie. He is adorable and definitely a strong little baby. Thanks for creating this blog, I was bugging Marcus everyday for information until he sent it to me. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers!

Hi Shannon and Chuckie,
Words hardly seem adequate regarding your present situation, but God's Word always speaks when humans fail:
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Okay, Charlie. We've got the heart, two lungs, and a general infection covered. Now that all that excitement is over, time to sit back and recoup. Turn on some Bob Marley and order up some virgin drink from the hospital cafeteria.
Here's to recovery, little guy!
